As I read this tears stream down my face. I too, have coal in my veins. Born and raised in the hills of Kentucky, coal has provided for me and my family my whole life. My dad has been involved in coal since his teen years, never a deep miner, but still coal kept our lights on. July 11, 2011, my brother and friend, Ryan Thatcher 26 years young, lost his life in Martin County, Kentucky, Massey Voyager #7 mine. Our lives will never be the same and coal has taken deeper roots in our hearts and lives. We are reminded by tragedy the dangers our coal miners face daily and constantly we lift them in prayer. God bless this, Coal Miner's Daughter and her precious father as he heals from such a tragic event.

I just wanted to say that Mike Griffith is my uncle and my dad and uncle was two of the lost miners. (William Griffith and Carl Acord) I really appreciate you guys doing this race. It meant alot to all of us. I wanna say I'm so proud of my Uncle Mike for winning last night. Losing my dad was the hardest thing I have ever went through in my entire life. I was a daddys girl so it hit me pretty hard. I feel like he is still here. I never got the closure I needed. I think because I didn't get to see that he was really gone for myself. Anyway I just wanna say I'm very thankful for my family and friends and for the people who has helped all of the families. I really appreciate all the donations for the memorial. It means alot to my family and I'm sure it does to us all. I can't wait to see the memorial when it's finished. But I just wanted to thank you all so much for putting together this race. It was AWESOME!!
