UBB Miners Memorial Announces New Donations

THE UBB MINERS MEMORIAL GROUP ANNOUNCES NEW CONTRIBUTIONS

New Donations To The Memorial Project Total Over $12,000

WHITESVILLE- The Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group, INC announced on Wednesday another round of donations to the UBB Miners Memorial project. The combined total of all five donations equal $12,400.  Contributions from Norfolk Southern, Raleigh Mine and Industrial Supply, Beckley Auto Mall, National Belt Service of West Virginia and Peerless Block increased the amount collected and pledged by the memorial group to $173,150. In May, Alpha Natural Resources pledged to match the first $250,000 the group was able to raise. The total estimated cost of the UBB Miners Memorial is $500,000.

Norfolk Southern Corporation contributed $5,000 to the UBB Miners Memorial project and is one of the nation’s premier transportation companies. Its Norfolk Southern Railway subsidiary operates approximately 20,000 route miles in 22 states and the District of Columbia, serves every major container port in the eastern United States, and provides efficient connections to other rail carriers. Norfolk Southern operates the most extensive intermodal network in the East and is a major transporter of coal and industrial products.

Raleigh Mine and Industrial Supply donated $1,000 to the memorial project. The company was founded in 1978 and is headquartered in Mt. Hope, WV.  Through seven companies, RMIS is able to provide it’s customers access to products and services that cross the breadth of mining, commercial and industrial operations.

The Beckley Auto Mall, located in Beckley, WV, contributed $2,500 to the fund raising effort. “We are glad to sponsor a memorial for the hard working coal miners that tragically lost their lives going to work to support their families”, said Dealer Operator Lori Davis. The Beckley Auto Mall offers the widest selection of  new and pre-owned Buick  and GMC vehicles in Beckley and the surrounding areas.

Peerless Block and Brick donated $1,000 to the UBB Miners Memorial. Headquartered in St. Albans, WV and founded in 1905 the company is the oldest block producer in the country. Since then, Peerless Block and Brick has become the region’s leading manufacturer and supplier of masonry products.

National Belt Service of West Virginia, INC donated $2,900 to the project. The company has offices in Charleston and Wheeling, WV and was formed in 1999. It is affiliated with National Belt Service, INC.  NBSWV provides 24 hour, around the clock, emergency onsite belt service.

The Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group, INC is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) established in February of 2011 to raise funds to construct a memorial plaza located in Whitesville, WV. The memorial will commemorate the events that occurred at UBB, pay homage to all fallen coal miners and recognize the importance of the coal mining industry to the Mountain State.
