UBB Memorial Group Announces New Donations

UBB MINERS MEMORIAL GROUP ANNOUNCES NEW DONATIONS

Latest Contributions Lift Total Amount Raised Over $150,000

WHITESVILLE, WV- On Wednesday, the Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group announced five new contributors to the UBB Miners Memorial project. The gifts from the new sponsors total more than $10,000. “The memorial group would like to thank the latest contributors to the UBB Miners Memorial as each donation, no matter how big or small, helps move us one step closer to reaching our fundraising  goal of $250,000, ” said Sheila Combs, President of the Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group. The most recent donations lift the total amount pledged and collected by the memorial group to $152,800.  In May, Alpha Natural Resources pledged to match the first $250,000 that the group was able to raise. The estimated cost to build the memorial is $500,000.

Buchanan Pump Service and Supply Company, Lee Supply Company and Appalachian Tire Products and Service donated $1,000 each to the UBB Miners Memorial. Piney Land Company donated $2,500 and a corporate donor that chooses to remain anonymous gave $5,000 to the project. The gifts from all five contributors equal $10,500.

Appalachian Tire Products and Services headquartered in Charleston, WV was founded in 1947. It operates 23 stores located in West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Tennessee and specializes in undergound mine tires and wheels.

Buchanan Pump Service and Supply is headquartered in Pound, VA and sells MSHA approved pumps for diverse dewatering operations. BPS services the coal industry, rock quarries, industrial areas and municipalities.

Lee Supply Company, Inc. has been a leader in the sale and installation of pipe and pumping systems since 1954. It is a family owned and operated business that is the provider of choice to many municipalities, construction companies, mines and environmental operations.

Piney Land Company services residential and commercial real estate markets and is located in Beckley, WV.

The Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group, INC is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) established in February of 2011 to raise funds to construct a memorial plaza located in Whitesville, WV. The memorial will commemorate the events that occurred at UBB, pay homage to all fallen coal miners and recognize the importance of the coal mining industry to the Mountain State.
