UBB MINERS MEMORIAL RECEIVES MORE DONATIONS
List of Project Contributors Continues to Grow
WHITESVILLE- The Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group announced on Monday a number of new contributions to the UBB Miners Memorial Project. The total of the latest corporate donations amount to $10,500. In addition, the Miners Memorial Group has received another $15,000 in combined contributions from a company that chooses to remain anonymous and an individual’s charitable trust.
SGS North America contributed $1,000 to the UBB Miners Memorial. “We at SGS are very proud to be part of the coal mining community in West Virginia and understand the vital part it plays in our nation’s economy. We honor those lives lost in this pursuit, especially the miners from UBB, and support their families left behind, ” said Dave Smercina, Senior Vice President, US Minerals Services, SGS North America Inc.
Mountaineer Investigation & Security, from Athens WV, also donated $1,000 to the project. Local trucking company Tyler Trucking donated $3,000 to the Memorial and CSX added $5,000. Kanawha Scales and Systems contributed $500. “The Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group would like to thank our new corporate partners for their generous contributions. We are blown away by the outpouring of support the UBB Miners Memorial project has received to this point,” said Sheila Combs, President of the memorial group.

Mountaineer Investigation and Security is headquartered in Athens, WV and provides on-site security for coal mines in KY, VA and WV.
Kanawha Scales & Systems is the largest independent scale distributor in the United States. Tyler Trucking LLC owned by James Craig and located in nearby Seth, WV has been hauling coal and equipment for the coal industry in southern West Virginia since 2002.

The company’s rail and intermodal businesses provide rail-based transportation services including traditional rail service and the transport of intermodal containers and trailers.
The Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group, INC is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) established in February of 2011 to raise funds to construct a memorial plaza located in Whitesville, WV. The memorial will commemorate the events that occurred at UBB, pay homage to all fallen coal miners and recognize the importance of the coal mining industry to the Mountain State.
