UBB MINERS MEMORIAL RECEIVES FIRST MAJOR CORPORATE GIFT
Martin Engineering Pledges $25,000 to the Memorial Project
On Tuesday May 10th, the Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group received the first major contribution to the Upper Big Branch Miners Memorial from Martin Engineering. After contacting Sheila Combs President of the Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group and researching the proposal for the memorial the company’s Board decided to contribute $25,000. “We are very pleased to hear that Martin Engineering is the first to offer support for this worthwhile project”, said Edwin H. Petersen chairman of the board for Martin Engineering.
The company’s decision to contribute to the memorial is an important milestone for the Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group. It represents not only a commitment to the project but to the families of the victims of the disaster, the community and the state. This generous contribution from a company with Martin Engineering’s stature in the industry lends the Upper Big Branch Mining Memorial Group’s efforts greater credibility as it moves forward towards the completion of the fund raising phase of the project. “Martin Engineering has shown their support for the memorial and the commitment to the coal industry and especially to those whose livelihoods depend on coal”, said UBBMMG President Sheila Combs.
